Step-by-Step Application

7-Step Vietnam eVisa Application for Australians

1

Prepare your passport bio-data page scan

The eVisa requires only the bio-data page of your Australian passport — no portrait photo needed. Place the passport flat on a white desk. Take the photo with your phone camera. Requirements:

YESJPEG format, under 2MB, all 4 corners of passport visible, MRZ strip (2 rows of machine-readable text at bottom) fully readable, flat and even lighting
NOHEIC (iPhone default), blurry, cropped corners, glare or shadow over MRZ, file over 2MB

iPhone tip: go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible to save as JPEG automatically, or convert the photo after taking it.

2

Check your Australian passport validity

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your Vietnam arrival date — not from today, not from the date you apply. Australian adult passports are valid for 10 years; children under 16 get 5-year passports. If your passport expires within 6 months of your Vietnam arrival, renew before applying. Vietnamese immigration will refuse entry regardless of an approved eVisa if the passport fails this check.

3

Confirm your Vietnam arrival date — not your Australian departure date

Enter the date you land in Vietnam. Because Vietnam is only 3 hours behind AEST, most overnight Australian flights arrive in Vietnam the next calendar day. Open your booking confirmation and check the Vietnam segment arrival date. A Sydney traveler who departs Tuesday evening will typically arrive Wednesday morning in Vietnam — enter Wednesday.

4

Select your Vietnam entry point — the single most common AU error

Most Australian Vietnam flights connect through Singapore, KL, or Hong Kong. These are transit hubs — not your entry point. Select the Vietnamese airport only:

SYD or MEL via Singapore or KL → HCMCTan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN)
Any AU city via any hub → HanoiNoi Bai International Airport (HAN)
Any AU city → Da NangDa Nang International Airport (DAD)
BNE direct → HCMCTan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN)

Wrong entry point = denied entry at Vietnamese immigration. Cannot be changed after approval. New eVisa required.

5

Choose validity (30 or 90 days) and single or multiple-entry

30 daysFor trips up to 30 days. Lower fee option. Same approval process.
90 daysFor longer trips or flexibility. Most popular for Australian travelers. Same fee difference is minimal — choose 90 if in doubt.
Single-entryOne entry, one continuous stay. Standard option.
Multiple-entry +$25Unlimited exits and re-entries within validity period. Required for cross-border trips to Cambodia or Laos. Cannot upgrade after approval.
6

Select processing tier and pay

Choose based on when you need the visa. All prices USD, all-in including $25 government fee. Pay by card or PayPal. After payment, WhatsApp +84 947 754 252 your confirmation to trigger priority review:

3-Day — $90Submit before 2pm AEST. Trip 4+ days away. Best value.
1-Day — $110Before 2pm AEST. Same VNT business day. Most popular.
5-Hour — $125Before 4pm AEST. Flight tonight.
2.5-Hour — $155Before 6pm AEST. Check-in in a few hours.
1-Hour — $185Before 9pm AEST. At airport or heading there now.
7

Receive PDF, print, and present at Australian check-in

Approved eVisa arrives as PDF by email and WhatsApp. Print a copy before going to the airport. At check-in in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Perth: show the printed eVisa alongside your passport. The airline TIMATIC system will confirm your entry clearance. At Vietnamese immigration on arrival: present the same eVisa PDF. No cash, no separate VOA counter, no queue.

Validity Guide

How long is Vietnam eVisa valid for Australians? ▼

Australians can choose 30 days or 90 days at the time of application. Validity starts from the entry date on the application, not the approval date. Single-entry: one continuous stay for the chosen duration. Multiple-entry (+$25): unlimited exits and re-entries within the chosen validity period. Cannot upgrade from single to multiple after approval.

What entry point should I select on my Vietnam eVisa application? ▼

Select the Vietnamese airport where you first clear Vietnamese immigration. SYD/MEL via Singapore or KL to HCMC → Tan Son Nhat (SGN). Any AU city via any hub to Hanoi → Noi Bai (HAN). Any AU city to Da Nang → Da Nang (DAD). Do not select Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, or KL — this is the most common error. Wrong entry point = denied entry in Vietnam. Cannot be amended after approval.

Do Australians need a portrait photo for Vietnam eVisa in 2026? ▼

No. Only the passport bio-data page photo is needed. No portrait photo, no photo booth, no 4x6cm white background photo. iPhone users: convert HEIC to JPEG before uploading — Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, or convert after taking the photo.

Should I choose 30 days or 90 days for my Vietnam eVisa? ▼

Choose 30 days for short trips up to 4 weeks. Choose 90 days for longer stays, working holidays, or if you are unsure of your exact return date — the cost difference is small and the flexibility is worth it. If you plan any cross-border day trips into Cambodia (from HCMC) or Laos (from Hanoi), you must also select multiple-entry (+$25) before submitting, as single-entry cannot be upgraded after approval.
