Watch: US travelers who used VietnamVisaEasy for their Vietnam eVisa

Verified reviews from JFK, LAX, SFO, and ORD travelers

Do US Citizens Need a Visa for Vietnam?

Yes — US passport holders require a valid eVisa for every trip to Vietnam, regardless of length of stay or purpose of visit. Vietnam does not offer visa-free entry to American citizens, and there is no visa on arrival system in 2026. The US State Department's Vietnam travel advisory confirms that US citizens must obtain a visa before arrival. Airlines will deny boarding on any US-to-Vietnam route for passengers without a valid approved eVisa.

This is one of the most common points of confusion for first-time US travelers to Vietnam. The country is accessible and popular, but it does not appear on the list of visa-free destinations for Americans the way some other Southeast Asian countries do. Every US passport holder — tourist, business traveler, or returning visitor — needs the eVisa applied for and approved before check-in at JFK, LAX, SFO, ORD, or any other departure airport.

The eVisa is applied for on evisa.gov.vn, the official Vietnamese government portal. Standard processing takes 3 to 5 Vietnamese business days at a government fee of USD 25 (single entry) or USD 50 (multiple entry). Agency-assisted processing through VietnamVisaEasy includes document checking, photo verification, error correction, urgent tiers from same-day to 1-Hour, and 24/7 WhatsApp support — all-inclusive starting from USD 90.

Vietnam eVisa Cost for US Citizens

Two things most US applicants get wrong: the 30-day and 90-day eVisa cost exactly the same — always choose 90 days. And if you already applied on evisa.gov.vn, Speed Up costs USD 25 less than a new application because the government fee already paid is deducted.

Option Single entry Multiple entry Validity Processing
Government (evisa.gov.vn) USD 25 USD 50 30 or 90 days 3–5 business days, no support
VietnamVisaEasy 3-Day USD 90 USD 115 30 or 90 days 3 business days, incl. USD 25 govt fee
VietnamVisaEasy 1-Day USD 110 USD 135 30 or 90 days By midnight ET Mon–Fri
VietnamVisaEasy 1-Hour USD 185 USD 210 30 or 90 days By 07:00 ET Mon–Fri
Speed Up (already applied) from USD 65 from USD 90 30 or 90 days USD 25 govt fee deducted from every tier

All VietnamVisaEasy prices inclusive of USD 25 government fee. 30-day and 90-day validity same price. Multiple entry adds USD 25.

ET Processing Deadlines — Every Tier

Vietnamese immigration operates on Vietnam Time (VNT, UTC+7). For US travelers the relevant deadlines are in Eastern Time. Central Time subtract 1 hour, Mountain subtract 2, Pacific subtract 3. During standard time (EDT ends first Sunday in November, EST through March), all ET cutoffs remain the same designation — only the UTC offset shifts.

Tier New app Speed Up ET cutoff PT cutoff Use when
3-Day $90 $65 midnight ET 21:00 PT Flight 3+ business days away
2-Day $105 $80 midnight ET 21:00 PT Flight in 2 business days
1-Day $110 $85 midnight ET 21:00 PT Flight tomorrow
5-Hour $125 $100 02:00 ET 23:00 PT Today, 5+ hours to check-in
2.5-Hour $155 $130 04:00 ET 01:00 PT Check-in in 2.5–5 hours
1-Hour $185 $160 07:00 ET 04:00 PT At airport, check-in open
Weekend $230 $210 04:00 ET Sat/Sun 01:00 PT Saturday or Sunday flight
Boarding Letter WhatsApp only 24/7 24/7 After 07:00 ET — 30 min check-in bridge

ET = Eastern Time (UTC-5 EST / UTC-4 EDT). CT = ET−1h. MT = ET−2h. PT = ET−3h. After 07:00 ET weekday or outside weekend window: Boarding Letter 30 min bridge, eVisa from 08:00 VNT next business morning.

The Entry Port Mistake US Travelers Make Most Often

Most US-to-Vietnam routes connect through Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, or Dubai. This routing creates the most common and most damaging mistake in US eVisa applications: entering the transit hub code instead of the Vietnamese airport code in the entry port field.

The entry port must be the Vietnamese airport where your plane physically lands. You never pass through Vietnamese immigration at Singapore Changi or Incheon — those are transit points. The wrong code triggers Amendment Required with no email notification, resetting the processing clock to Day 1. On an urgent application submitted at 06:00 ET, this means the 1-Hour window has already closed before the error is discovered.

US departure → transit → Vietnam Wrong Correct Vietnamese airport
JFK / LAX / SFO → Singapore (SIN) → Ho Chi Minh City SIN SGN Tan Son Nhat International
JFK / LAX → Seoul (ICN) → Hanoi ICN HAN Noi Bai International
ORD / SFO → Tokyo (NRT) → Ho Chi Minh City NRT SGN Tan Son Nhat International
JFK → Dubai (DXB) → Ho Chi Minh City DXB SGN Tan Son Nhat International
Any US city → any transit → Da Nang SIN / ICN DAD Da Nang International

Other valid Vietnam entry ports: PQC (Phu Quoc), CXR (Nha Trang / Cam Ranh). Always use the code of the Vietnamese airport on your boarding pass, not the transit hub.

The International Date Line: Entry Date Mistake Specific to US Routing

US travelers face a unique complication that Australian or European travelers do not: the International Date Line. A flight departing LAX on Friday evening, transiting Singapore on Saturday, lands in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday morning Vietnam time. The entry date on the eVisa must be Sunday — not Friday (US departure) and not Saturday (Singapore transit).

On a standard multi-day application this is a minor inconvenience if caught early. On a 1-Hour emergency application, an entry date that is one day off means the approved eVisa is technically invalid for the actual landing date. Always check the "Arrives" line on the Vietnam-landing segment in your booking confirmation, not the departure date from your US city.

What You Need to Apply

1 US passport scan Photo/bio-data page. Valid at least 6 months beyond Vietnam arrival date. At least 2 blank pages. Full legal name including all middle names — check the MRZ line at the bottom. Standard 28 or 52-page passport; 12-page emergency passports may not be accepted.
2 JPEG photo White background, 4x6cm, no glasses, recent. iPhone users: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, or take directly through WhatsApp camera. HEIC format triggers Amendment Required with no notification — most common US applicant photo error.
3 Travel details Vietnam arrival date in DD/MM/YYYY — the date your plane lands in Vietnam, not US departure date. Entry port: SGN / HAN / DAD / PQC / CXR. Never SIN, ICN, NRT, or DXB. Flight number of the Vietnam-landing leg.

Validity: always choose 90 days — costs the same as 30. Single entry if Vietnam only. Multiple entry (add USD 25) for Vietnam–Cambodia, Vietnam–Laos, or any itinerary with re-entry into Vietnam.

If Your Application Is Already Stalled

If you applied on evisa.gov.vn and your status has been stuck on "In Process" with a JFK, LAX, or SFO flight approaching, the correct action is Speed Up — not reapplying. Reapplying creates a deduplication hold of 24 to 48 hours on both applications, making resolution significantly harder before the flight.

Path A — Application correct

Data matches passport, JPEG photo accepted, entry port correct. Free priority escalation ~60 min during VNT hours (08:00–18:00 VNT = 20:00–07:00 ET). No charge beyond Speed Up tier.

Path B — Amendment Required

Error flagged with no email — HEIC photo, SIN instead of SGN, missing middle name, MM/DD date. Free correction then priority resubmit. Clock resets to Day 1 — choose faster tier.

Frequently asked questions

Do US citizens need a visa for Vietnam in 2026?
Yes. US passport holders require a valid eVisa for every trip to Vietnam in 2026. No visa-free entry, no visa on arrival — confirmed by the US State Department Vietnam travel advisory. eVisa applied on evisa.gov.vn: USD 25 single entry, USD 50 multiple entry. Agency-assisted from USD 90 all-inclusive with urgent tiers to 1-Hour before 07:00 ET.
Is 30-day or 90-day Vietnam eVisa better for US travelers?
Both cost exactly the same — USD 25 single entry or USD 50 multiple entry. Always choose 90 days. There is no financial reason to choose 30 days. VietnamVisaEasy applies 90-day validity by default for all US applicants unless you specify otherwise.
What ET deadline do I use for the 1-Hour emergency tier?
Apply before 07:00 ET Monday to Friday (18:00 VNT). CT: before 06:00. MT: before 05:00. PT: before 04:00. After 07:00 ET: Boarding Letter in 30 minutes via WhatsApp +84 947 754 252 as check-in bridge, full eVisa PDF before landing.
What entry port do I use for JFK or LAX via Singapore?
Entry port = Vietnamese airport where your plane lands, never the transit hub. JFK or LAX via Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City: SGN. Via Seoul to Hanoi: HAN. Via Tokyo to HCMC: SGN. Via Dubai to HCMC: SGN. Da Nang: DAD. Wrong port resets the clock to Day 1 with no email warning.
My flight departs Friday from LA but arrives Sunday in Vietnam — what date do I enter?
Enter Sunday in DD/MM/YYYY format — the date your plane lands in Vietnam. Not Friday (LA departure) and not Saturday (Singapore transit). The International Date Line adds calendar days on US-to-Vietnam routing. Always check the "Arrives" line on the Vietnam leg of your booking confirmation.
My Vietnam eVisa is stalled and my flight from JFK is today — what do I do?
Do not reapply. WhatsApp +84 947 754 252 immediately with Reference Code (E260705USA... from post-payment email), registered email, and flight number. Path A: free escalation if correct. Path B: free correction if Amendment Required. Boarding Letter in 30 min at JFK. Speed Up from USD 65 — USD 25 already paid is deducted.
Can I get a Vietnam eVisa on a weekend for a Saturday or Sunday flight?
Yes. Weekend New Application USD 230 and Weekend Speed Up USD 210, both by 04:00 ET Saturday or Sunday (15:00 VNT). One immigration batch per weekend day, results 07:00–09:00 ET (16:00–18:00 VNT). Outside this window: Boarding Letter 30 min bridge, 24/7. US public holidays do not affect Vietnamese immigration. Vietnamese public holidays pause processing entirely — Boarding Letter available as bridge.

VietnamVisaEasy is a private travel agency that has processed Vietnam eVisa applications for US travelers since 2010, including same-day cases from JFK, LAX, SFO, ORD, and MIA. Visa requirements confirmed against US State Department Vietnam travel advisory and Vietnamese immigration authority as of July 2026.
