When an application on evisa.gov.vn seems stuck, three actions are possible: wait, speed up the same file, or start over. They are not interchangeable, and choosing the wrong one costs money, time, or the flight. This page shows how to choose, what each option really involves, and the cases where starting over is genuinely right.

Step 1: Read the Status the Right Way
Everything starts at evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search with your registration code, the email you used and your date of birth. The confirmation email is no substitute: it shows the status at the moment you submitted and never updates.

The last row deserves a warning. “No record found” looks like proof that nothing was submitted, but a mistyped code, a different email address, or a date of birth in the wrong order produce exactly the same message. So does an application whose payment never completed. Many people restart at this point and then discover the original was fine. Check the four items first.

Option 1: Wait
Waiting is right when the file is In Process, is within the normal window, and your flight is comfortably beyond it. The normal window is several Vietnamese working days, and it grows around public holidays such as Tet. Waiting costs nothing, which is why it is tempting to wait too long.
Set a decision date. Do not wait without a limit. Choose a moment at least one full Vietnamese working day before check-in closes, and decide in advance that if the status has not changed by then, you will ask for a speed-up. That one rule prevents the most common failure, which is discovering the problem on the last day.
Option 2: Speed Up the Same File
A speed-up escalates the application you already submitted. It is the right move when you are past the normal window, when your flight is close, or when waiting has become a risk. It works on the file you already paid for, so it costs less than a new application at the same speed.
- What to send: your reference code (format E260705…), the email registered on evisa.gov.vn, and your flight number and departure time.
- What happens first: support looks at the file. If it is correct, it is escalated. If an error is found, it is corrected first and then resubmitted with priority.
- What it cannot do: fix an error by itself, or promise approval or an exact time.

Option 3: Start Over, and When It Is Genuinely Right
Starting over is correct in fewer cases than people think:
- The application was rejected, and you now know the reason and can address it.
- There really is no application. You rechecked the code, the email and the date of birth, and the payment never went through or the form was never submitted.
- Support confirms the file cannot be corrected in place, and a fresh submission is the only route.
A fresh application means a new government fee, so before you restart ask whether the existing file can be corrected or sped up instead. Make sure the old file is not active, and tell support so two applications are not left running side by side.

Cases That Need Extra Care
- A weekend or holiday is near. Weekday tiers close and processing pauses. The decision date has to come earlier.
- Several travelers. Each e-visa is its own file, with its own status and its own decision. Do not assume they move together.
- The flight is hours away. A boarding letter can bridge check-in for a file that is in process. It is not a visa, and the airline decides whether to accept it.

My Vietnam visa has been processing for days. Should I just wait?
