Vietnam e-visa errors range from minor typos to fundamental mistakes that will cause denied boarding at check-in. The good news is that most errors can be identified quickly, and action taken before you reach the airport. This guide covers every common error type, explains what each one means, and sets out the right response.
Never submit a second application to fix an error. Duplicate applications trigger a 24–48 hour hold on both. Contact VietnamVisaEasy — error identification is always free.

Error 1 — Wrong Name on the E-Visa
Your name on the e-visa must exactly match the name on your passport bio-data page — every character, middle name, hyphen, and spacing. Airline staff compare the two documents at check-in. Any discrepancy is grounds for denied boarding.
Common name errors:
- First and last name entered in the wrong order
- Middle name omitted or incorrect
- Hyphenated surname entered without the hyphen
- Typo in any part of the name

Error 2 — Wrong Passport Number
Your passport number on the e-visa must match your current passport. A single transposed digit means your e-visa cannot be verified against your travel document at immigration.
A common scenario: travellers who renewed their passport after submitting their application are travelling on a new passport number but their e-visa still shows the old one. If this has happened, you need a new e-visa issued for your new passport number.
Contact VietnamVisaEasy with your correct current passport number. Error identification is free.
Error 3 — Wrong Entry Date
The entry date on your e-visa must be your Vietnam arrival date — the date your flight lands in Vietnam, not the date you depart from your home country.
Example: You fly from Sydney on 10 November and land in Ho Chi Minh City on 11 November. Your e-visa entry date must be 11 November. Entering 10 November (the departure date) is the most common date error Australians make on overnight flights.
An entry date that is too early may cause immigration officers to question whether your visa is valid for the day you actually arrive. Contact VietnamVisaEasy if there is any doubt.
Error 4 — Wrong Entry Port
Your e-visa must list the Vietnamese airport where you clear immigration. If you transit through Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, or any other airport outside Vietnam, that airport should not appear on your visa.
Approved Vietnamese entry airports:
- Ho Chi Minh City — Tan Son Nhat (SGN)
- Hanoi — Noi Bai (HAN)
- Da Nang (DAD)
- Phu Quoc (PQC)
- Cam Ranh / Nha Trang (CXR)
Contact VietnamVisaEasy if the entry port on your visa does not match where you will actually clear Vietnamese immigration.
Error 5 — Amendment Required Status
Amendment Required is a status shown on the Vietnamese government portal (evisa.gov.vn) when the system has flagged a problem with your submitted application. It is not a rejection — your application is on hold.
The most common triggers:
- Passport photo: Wrong background colour (must be white or light grey), face not fully visible, sunglasses or head covering, low resolution, or photo taken more than 6 months ago
- Passport scan: Blurry, cropped, or text not legible
- Data mismatch: Information in the form does not match the passport scan
