A wrong passport number on a Vietnam e-visa will cause problems at immigration. The Vietnamese immigration system verifies your visa against the passport number it was issued for — if the numbers do not match, you may be denied entry. This page explains the two main causes, what to check, and the right steps to take.
Do not submit a second application to try to fix this. Duplicate applications trigger a 24–48 hour hold on both. Contact VietnamVisaEasy — error identification is free.
Step 1 — Verify What the E-Visa Shows
Check your visa status and approval at evisa.gov.vn using your application reference number. Once approved, the e-visa PDF will clearly show the passport number it was issued for.
Compare it character by character against the bio-data page of the passport you will be travelling on. Passport numbers typically contain both letters and digits — a single transposed character is enough to cause a mismatch.
Two Reasons This Happens
Reason 1 — Typo in the Application
A digit was entered incorrectly or two characters were transposed when the application was filled in. The result is a visa linked to a number that does not exist in any passport.
Contact VietnamVisaEasy with your correct passport number. Error identification is free.
Reason 2 — Passport Renewed After Application
Your e-visa was applied for using your old passport number. You have since renewed your passport and will be travelling on the new one, which has a different number. Your e-visa is still linked to the old number.
Carrying both passports will not resolve this. You need a new e-visa issued for your current passport number. Contact VietnamVisaEasy immediately, especially if your flight is within a few days.
