Processing is not a rejection. The system shows three distinct statuses: Processing (queue), Approved (PDF ready), Rejected / Invalid (refused with reason code). If your status is Processing, it has not been refused — it has not yet been reviewed.

Why it takes longer than expected
Friday ET applications sit until Monday VNT. Public holidays pause processing entirely. Peak season (Tet, summer) creates backlogs. A photo or data issue routes the application to slower manual review. None of these mean rejection.

1. Submitted Friday ET — sits until Monday VNT
Vietnamese Immigration closes at 18:00 VNT Friday and reopens Monday 08:00 VNT. Any application submitted after approximately 4pm ET Thursday enters a weekend queue. US traveler submitting "Thursday night" thinks they have a full business day remaining — they do not. Friday ET = Saturday VNT = weekend queue.

2. Middle name missing — US, Canadian, some Australian passports
These passport types include all given names including middle names in the MRZ. The evisa.gov.vn system compares the application name against the MRZ. A mismatch sends the application to manual verification — adding 1–3 business days. Enter full legal name exactly as printed on the bio-data page.

3. Passport photo uploaded as HEIC instead of JPEG
iPhone saves photos in HEIC by default. The evisa.gov.vn portal requires JPEG. A HEIC file either causes an upload error or stores as an unprocessable file, routing the application to technical review. Fix: iPhone Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible before taking the passport photo.

4. Entry port set to transit hub instead of Vietnamese airport
US travelers routing via Seoul ICN or Tokyo NRT commonly select these as entry port. Australian travelers via Singapore SIN or Bangkok BKK make the same error. The entry port must be the Vietnamese airport where immigration is first cleared: SGN (Ho Chi Minh City), HAN (Hanoi), or DAD (Da Nang).

5. Arrival date set to departure country date instead of Vietnam landing date
JFK Monday night to SGN arrives Wednesday morning VNT — two calendar days later. SYD Tuesday to HAN arrives Wednesday or Thursday. Entering the departure date creates a date mismatch flag. Always use the Vietnam arrival date from the booking confirmation — not the date you board the plane at home.

6. Vietnamese public holiday or Tet period
Tet (January/February), National Day (September 2), Liberation Day (April 30–May 1), and other public holidays pause all government eVisa processing. Applications submitted in the days before or during these periods queue until the office reopens. Tet backlogs can extend processing to 7+ business days even for error-free applications.
