Vietnam Visa for Canadian Citizens 2026: Requirements, Cost, Processing Time, and Urgent Options
VietnamVisaEasy • Updated July 21, 2026 • Processing experience since 2010 • Written for Canadian travelers
Direct answer
Canadian citizens require a Vietnam eVisa for every visit. No visa on arrival in 2026. Government eVisa: USD 25 single entry, USD 50 multiple. Standard processing 3 to 5 Vietnamese business days. Both 30-day and 90-day same price — always choose 90 days.
Canadian routes via Seoul (ICN) or Tokyo (NRT): entry port must be SGN (HCMC), HAN (Hanoi), or DAD (Da Nang) — never ICN or NRT. Wrong port = silent Amendment Required, clock reset.
Last minute: agency processing from USD 90 (3-Day) to USD 185 (1-Hour before 07:00 ET). Speed Up from USD 65 if already applied — do not reapply.
Apply at least 10 Vietnamese business days before departure. For December travel: 12 days minimum. Entry date = Vietnam arrival date, not Canada departure date (Time Zone crossing may add 1 day for YVR/YYZ → Asia routes).

The Entry Port Problem: ICN and NRT Are Not Vietnamese Airports
Most Canadian flights to Vietnam depart from Vancouver (YVR) or Toronto (YYZ) and transit through Seoul Incheon (ICN) or Tokyo Narita (NRT) before landing at a Vietnamese airport. When filling the eVisa application, the entry port field must be completed with the Vietnamese airport where the plane physically lands — not the transit hub.
The evisa.gov.vn portal accepts ICN and NRT as valid IATA codes without flagging them as incorrect. This means an application with ICN as entry port can be submitted, fees paid, and a Reference Code issued — and the traveller has no indication of an error until either Amendment Required appears on the status portal (no email is sent) or the airline catches it at check-in.
| Canadian route | Wrong port | Correct port | Vietnamese city |
|---|---|---|---|
| YVR / YYZ via Seoul (ICN) → Ho Chi Minh City | ICN | SGN | Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat) |
| YVR / YYZ via Seoul (ICN) → Hanoi | ICN | HAN | Hanoi (Noi Bai) |
| YVR via Tokyo (NRT) → Ho Chi Minh City | NRT | SGN | Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat) |
| YVR / YYZ via any transit → Da Nang | ICN/NRT | DAD | Da Nang International |
Rule: open the booking confirmation, find the flight segment where "Arrives" shows a Vietnamese city. That IATA code is the entry port. VietnamVisaEasy checks the entry port before every agency-assisted submission.
eVisa Requirements for Canadian Citizens
| Document / field | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Passport | Valid Canadian passport with at least 6 months validity beyond Vietnam arrival date. 2 blank pages minimum. |
| Portrait photo | JPEG only (not HEIC). White background, neutral expression, no glasses, face fills 70%+ of frame, under 2MB. iPhone: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. |
| Passport bio page scan | JPEG, full page including MRZ lines visible, all text legible, under 2MB. Flat scan preferred over camera photo. |
| Full legal name | All given names exactly as shown in passport MRZ second line — including all middle names. Most common Amendment Required trigger after HEIC photo. |
| Entry date | Vietnam arrival date in DD/MM/YYYY format from "Arrives" column of Vietnam-landing flight segment. Not Canada departure date. YVR/YYZ → Asia routes typically do not cross Date Line, but YVR → Tokyo routes may — verify against booking. |
| Entry port | Vietnamese airport: SGN (HCMC), HAN (Hanoi), DAD (Da Nang), PQC (Phu Quoc), CXR (Nha Trang). Never ICN, NRT, or other transit hubs. |
| Validity | 30 or 90 days. Both cost the same. Always choose 90 days. |
| Entry type | Single entry (USD 25 govt fee) or multiple entry (USD 50 govt fee). Multiple entry needed if crossing into Cambodia or Laos and returning to Vietnam. |
Processing Times and Urgent Options for Canadians
Standard government processing at evisa.gov.vn takes 3 to 5 Vietnamese business days — longer in peak season. If the departure date is within that window, agency urgent processing is available with defined delivery guarantees.

ET = Eastern Time (Toronto/Ottawa). CT = Central Time (Winnipeg). PT = Pacific Time (Vancouver). Speed Up applies when already submitted on evisa.gov.vn with USD 25 govt fee paid — fee deducted. Do not reapply if stalled — creates 24–48h duplication hold. VNT = Vietnam Time UTC+7. MT cutoff (Calgary/Edmonton): 1-Hour = 05:00 MT.
Applying on evisa.gov.vn vs Using an Agency
Canadian travelers have two options for applying. The comparison below reflects what each path actually provides:
| Feature | evisa.gov.vn (government) | VietnamVisaEasy (agency) |
|---|---|---|
| Government fee (single) | USD 25 | Included in all tiers |
| Total cost (standard) | USD 25 | From USD 90 |

| Error notification | Silent Amendment Required, no email | Caught before submission |
| Support | None | 24/7 WhatsApp |
| Urgent same-day processing | Not available | 1-Hour to 3-Day |
| Weekend processing | Not available | USD 230 / USD 210 Speed Up |
| Best for | Travelers with 2+ weeks, comfortable with technical forms | Last-minute, uncertain on fields, or wanting document verification |
Common Mistakes Canadian Travelers Make on Vietnam eVisa
| Mistake | Correct approach |
|---|---|
| Entering ICN (Seoul) as entry port | SGN, HAN, or DAD — the Vietnamese airport on the "Arrives" line of the Vietnam-landing segment |
| HEIC photo from iPhone | JPEG only. Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. Or use WhatsApp camera. |
| Missing middle name | Enter all given names from passport MRZ second line. Every middle name, no abbreviations. |
| Checking confirmation email instead of live portal | Check live status at evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search with Reference Code (E260705...). Confirmation email does not update. |
| Reapplying when application stalls | Speed Up via WhatsApp. Reapplying triggers 24–48h duplication hold on both applications. |
| Choosing 30-day validity | 90 days costs the same as 30 days. Always choose 90 for maximum flexibility. |
