What happened in this review

At Melbourne Airport on Christmas Day, a couple checked in for their Vietnam Airlines flight to Vietnam. The airline told them that the husband's Vietnam e-visa had a missing middle name — and that he could not board. The traveler contacted Vietnam Visa Easy on WhatsApp after hours on Christmas Day. Vietnam Visa Easy issued a brand new e-visa from scratch in under 1 hour. The holiday went ahead as planned.

The case at a glance

Customer video review

The video above was filmed at Melbourne Airport on Christmas Day by a traveler whose husband was denied boarding because his middle name was missing from his Vietnam e-visa. Vietnam Visa Easy processed a new visa on WhatsApp after hours on a public holiday and delivered it in under 1 hour.

Video transcript

"I am sitting here at the Melbourne airport and we are off to Vietnam. And we already had visas that we paid for. And when we arrived upon checking in at Vietnam Airlines, they told us that my husband's visa was missing his middle name. And that is an absolute no-go. So we did the research. Actually it told me about Vietnam Visa Easy. And I contacted them on WhatsApp and started communicating with their team. And it was after hours, Christmas. This is Christmas. This is Christmas Day. And they turned a brand new visa around from scratch in less than an hour and we thoroughly recommend their services. And thanks to them our holiday is going ahead as planned."

What this review tells us

A Vietnam e-visa with a missing middle name was rejected at Vietnam Airlines check-in — correctly, because the name did not match the passport. The existing visa could not be corrected: a name error on an approved e-visa requires a new application with the full correct name. Vietnam Visa Easy processed the new application after hours on Christmas Day — a Vietnamese public holiday — and delivered the approved e-visa in under 1 hour through the Weekend / Holiday tier. This is a documented case of an approval-stage name error resolved at the departure airport on a public holiday.

Why a missing middle name causes denial of boarding?

Vietnam Airlines and Vietnamese immigration compare the name on your e-visa against the machine-readable zone (MRZ) at the bottom of your passport's photo page. The MRZ contains your full legal name including any middle name. A missing middle name creates a mismatch and is treated as a different person.

Do not submit a duplicate application on the government portal. A duplicate triggers a 24-48 hour hold on both applications. Contact Vietnam Visa Easy to handle the replacement correctly. See what to do if your e-visa has an error.

Check your visa name before you travel

Open your approved e-visa PDF and your passport side by side. Compare:

1. Surname — must match exactly, including hyphenated names

2. Given name — must include all given names and middle names as they appear in the passport MRZ

3. Date of birth — day, month, year

4. Passport number — all digits and letters

5. Entry date — your arrival date in Vietnam, not your departure date from home

If anything does not match, contact Vietnam Visa Easy immediately — do not reapply on the government portal. Verify your visa at evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search.

Emergency processing on public holidays

Standard urgent tiers (Emergency 30-60 min, 1.5-Hour, 2.5-Hour, etc.) operate Monday to Friday during Vietnamese working hours only. On weekends and Vietnamese public holidays — including Christmas Day — only the Weekend / Holiday tier applies.

All fees include the government e-visa fee of USD 25. Multiple-entry option: +USD 25. Full refund if the committed delivery window is missed by more than 30 minutes. See full pricing and cutoff times.

How do you check your name before travelling?

• Open the passport photo page and read the two machine-readable lines at the bottom.
• Compare every given name and the surname with the e-visa, letter by letter.
• If a middle name is missing, ask for a correction or a new e-visa before you go to the airport.

Will Vietnam Airlines reject my visa if my middle name is missing?

Yes. As confirmed in this review, a missing middle name is "an absolute no-go" at Vietnam Airlines check-in. The name on your e-visa must match your passport's machine-readable zone (MRZ) exactly. Contact Vietnam Visa Easy immediately at +84 947 754 252 — do not submit a duplicate application.
