Vietnam E-Visa Stuck in Processing — What to Do (2026)

Quick Answer

Do not submit a new application. A duplicate triggers a 24–48 hour hold on both files. Standard processing is 4–6 Vietnamese business days. If your flight is soon, use Speed Up to escalate your existing file — no second USD 25 government fee. Error checking is free.

You applied for a Vietnam e-visa, paid the fee, and your application has been sitting on "Processing" for longer than expected. This page explains why applications stall, what the status means, when it is safe to wait, and what to do if your flight is approaching.

How Long Does Vietnam E-Visa Processing Normally Take?

Standard processing by the Vietnamese government immigration portal takes 4–6 Vietnamese business days. Business days are Monday to Friday, excluding Vietnamese public holidays. Applications submitted on a Friday afternoon, or before a multi-day public holiday, do not begin government review until the next working day. See the complete Vietnam e-visa guide.

Scenario When processing likely starts Earliest expected approval
Submitted Mon–Thu morning (VNT) Same day 4–6 business days later
Submitted Friday or eve of holiday Next business day Add weekend/holiday days to the count
Submitted over a Vietnamese public holiday First working day after holiday ends 4–6 business days from that point
High-volume period (Tet, national holidays) May be delayed even on business days Allow extra days; consider Speed Up if flight is near

Why Your Vietnam E-Visa Application Might Be Stuck

A "Processing" status that has not changed within the expected window usually has one of these causes:

1. Holiday or weekend at time of submission

The government portal pauses review on weekends and public holidays. If you submitted on or just before a holiday, the clock only started on the next business day.

2. Government portal backlog

Peak travel periods — particularly ahead of Tet, national holidays, and summer months — result in higher application volumes and occasionally slower approval queues.

3. Document flag — no notification sent

In some cases, a document issue (photo format, photo quality, name mismatch, blurry passport scan) causes the file to be flagged internally without the system sending an "Amendment Required" email. The application sits waiting for a correction that the applicant does not know is needed. See photo and passport requirements.

4. Amendment Required — notification missed

An "Amendment Required" email may have gone to spam, or the registered email address had a typo. The application is on hold awaiting a corrected document or data field. See Vietnam e-visa errors and how to address them.

5. Passport data parsing issue

Less commonly, special characters in a name (hyphens, apostrophes, accents) cause a parsing error in the government system that stalls the file. A free error check can identify this quickly.

When to Wait — When to Act

Use this decision guide based on how much time you have before your Vietnam arrival date. Already at the airport? See denied boarding to Vietnam:

Time until Vietnam arrival Recommended action
More than 6 business days Wait — still within normal standard processing window. Request a free error check if you want reassurance.
3–6 business days Request a free error check. If a document issue is found, act immediately. Otherwise monitor closely.
1–3 business days Act now — use 2.5-Hour or 1.5-Hour Speed Up to escalate your existing file.
Less than 24 hours (Mon–Fri) Emergency Speed Up (30–60 min, USD 190) — contact team first to confirm slot availability.
Less than 24 hours (Sat, Sun, or holiday) Weekend/Holiday Speed Up (USD 210, submit before 15:00 VNT) — contact team immediately.

Free Error Check — Find Out Why Your Application Is Delayed

Error checking and identification is free. If your application has been in "Processing" status longer than expected and you are not sure why, contact the team — they will check your file, identify whether there is a document flag, amendment issue, or data problem, and advise the fastest path to approval.

What to have ready for a free error check:

  • Your reference code — starts with E260705… (found in your confirmation email)
  • The email address you used when you registered the application
  • Your Vietnam arrival date and flight number (if your flight is coming up soon)
  • A photo of your passport biographical page (in case a correction is needed)

Error checking and identification is free — no charge to find out what is causing the delay.

Speed Up: Escalate Your Existing Application

Speed Up moves your existing application into an urgent processing queue at the Vietnamese government portal. It is not a new application. You do not pay the USD 25 government fee again. Your reference code, passport details, and all submitted documents stay the same — only the priority of the queue changes. See same-day Speed Up for an existing Vietnam e-visa.

How Speed Up works — step by step:

  1. Contact the team via WhatsApp with your reference code (E260705…), registered email, and flight details.
  2. If an error check reveals a document issue, the team corrects it before escalating — at no extra charge for the correction itself.
  3. Choose your Speed Up tier based on how much time you have (see fee table below).
  4. Pay the Speed Up fee. The team submits your file to the urgent queue.
  5. Your approved e-visa PDF is sent to your email. Download it and verify at evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search.
Important: If a document flag (Amendment Required) is the reason for the delay, the correction must happen before Speed Up escalation. The team handles both in sequence — the correction is free; the Speed Up escalation is paid.

Why You Must Not Submit a Duplicate Application

Submitting a second application while the first is still active is the single most common mistake made by applicants whose visa is taking longer than expected. The result is the opposite of what they intend:

Action Result
Submit a duplicate while first is processing Both files placed on a 24–48 hour hold
Pay USD 25 government fee a second time Fee is non-refundable regardless of outcome
Use Speed Up on the existing application Existing file escalated — no second government fee, no hold

Always contact the team before taking any action on an application that is already in the system. See help with an existing pending Vietnam e-visa.

Speed Up Fees and Delivery Times

All Speed Up prices are for escalating an existing application — no second USD 25 government fee applies. For reference, new application prices are also shown. Full cutoffs by time zone are on the urgent Vietnam visa service page.

Tier Delivery Speed Up (existing) New application Available
Standard 4–6 business days — USD 50 Mon–Fri
2.5-Hour approx. 2.5 hours USD 130 USD 155 Mon–Fri
1.5-Hour approx. 1.5 hours USD 160 USD 185 Mon–Fri
Emergency 30–60 minutes USD 190 USD 215 Mon–Fri — contact team first
Weekend / Holiday Same day USD 210 USD 230 Sat / Sun / public holidays — before 15:00 VNT

Emergency tier is Mon–Fri only. On weekends and public holidays the Weekend/Holiday tier is the only urgent option. Contact the team first to confirm a slot before proceeding.

Pre-arrival declaration (from 15 April 2026): All foreign nationals entering Vietnam must complete a pre-arrival declaration at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn before boarding. This is mandatory and separate from the e-visa. Complete it as soon as your e-visa is approved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Vietnam e-visa normally take to process?
Standard processing takes 4–6 Vietnamese business days (Mon–Fri, excluding public holidays). Applications submitted on a Friday afternoon or before a holiday do not begin processing until the next working day.
Why is my Vietnam e-visa stuck in processing?
Common reasons: application submitted before a Vietnamese holiday or long weekend; government portal backlog during peak periods; a document flag (photo, name mismatch) that did not trigger an amendment email; or an Amendment Required notification that went to spam. A free error check can pinpoint the cause.
Should I submit a new application if mine is stuck?
No. A duplicate application while one is already active triggers a 24–48 hour hold on both files. Use Speed Up to escalate the existing application — no second government fee required.
What is Speed Up and does it cost a second USD 25 government fee?
Speed Up escalates your existing application to an urgent queue — it does not create a new one. You do not pay the USD 25 Vietnamese government fee again. Speed Up fees range from USD 130 (2.5-Hour) to USD 190 (Emergency, Mon–Fri) or USD 210 (Weekend/Holiday).
Is there a free check to find out why my visa is delayed?
Yes. Error checking and identification is free. Contact the team via WhatsApp with your reference code (E260705…) and the email you used to register. The team will identify whether the delay is a backlog, a document flag, or an amendment issue.
What does "Amendment Required" mean?
The Vietnamese government portal has flagged an issue — usually a photo problem (HEIC format, coloured background, low resolution) or a name mismatch. The application cannot proceed until the issue is corrected and resubmitted. Identification of the issue is free. If Speed Up is needed after the correction, that fee applies.
My flight is tomorrow and my visa is still processing — what do I do?
Contact the team via WhatsApp immediately with your reference code, flight number, and Vietnam arrival date. On Mon–Fri, Emergency Speed Up (30–60 min, USD 190) is available — confirm slot availability first. On weekends or public holidays, Weekend/Holiday Speed Up (USD 210) applies before 15:00 VNT. Do not submit a new application.
Can I check my Vietnam e-visa status myself?
Yes. Go to evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search and enter your passport number and date of birth to check the status of your application. If the status shows "Processing" past the expected window, contact the team for a free error check.
