Finding a mistake on your e-visa is stressful, but not every error needs action, and the right fix isn't always the most expensive one. This guide goes through each common error, shows what to do about it, and compares the cost of a correction with a new application.

Can a mistake on a Vietnam e-visa be corrected?
Sometimes, but only before payment is it entirely in your hands. The official instructions on evisa.gov.vn say the system reads your passport image, fills in your details, and lets you check and update anything incorrect. That step comes before you submit.
The portal's FAQ doesn't describe a procedure for changing a paid application or an issued e-visa. So a correction after payment is a request that Immigration may or may not accept. Treat any firm promise about one with care, including a promise that it will be free or fast.

How do I fix each type of e-visa error?
Match your error to the table, then act on its risk level. Anything that identifies you or sets when you can enter comes first, because airlines and border officers compare your e-visa with your passport and your trip.

Name errors
The official FAQ says to enter your full name, including surname, middle name and given name, exactly as it appears on the ICAO line in your passport, in capitals. No published rule says which small differences a border officer or airline will accept. A one-letter error isn't automatically fatal, but don't assume it's fine either.
Date errors
Vietnamese dates are usually written day first, so 05/07/2026 normally means July 5. Read the month on your PDF, not just the numbers. Entry gate errors
The approved e-visa shows the entry gate, so compare it with the airport or border crossing where you'll first pass immigration. Don't confuse that with a transit airport outside Vietnam. Our e-visa ports of entry guide lists the official gates. You don't have to leave through the same gate.
Should I ask for a correction or apply again?
Choose by the time left before your flight, not by habit. A correction has no published timeframe. A new application has a known process, but it means a new government fee, and the first fee doesn't come back.

A correction is a request, not a right. Keep a backup plan until you hold a PDF that matches your passport.
Before you file a second application, think about what you'd do with the first one. If it's still processing, you could pay twice and end up with two files for one passport. We know of no published rule on which one takes priority, so travel on the e-visa that matches your passport exactly and keep that PDF with you.

What should I include in a correction request?
Send everything in one message, so nobody has to come back to you with questions. A vague message costs a working day, and Vietnam's offices only work Monday to Friday, roughly 8:00 to 11:30 and from 1:30 PM into the late afternoon, Vietnam time.
- Your application code, and the e-visa PDF if you have it.
- Your passport data page, as a clear image.
- The wrong field and the correct value, written out in full.
- Your flight details, including the arrival date and the Vietnamese airport.
- How you applied, whether on the official portal or through an agency.
If an agency filed your application, contact that agency first, because it holds your file. If you applied yourself, the portal lists these channels:

Share passport images only with these channels or a service you trust. Copycat sites exist, so check the address carefully. The portal's FAQ names only evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn as official e-visa addresses.
What if I find the mistake after I arrive in Vietnam?
Tell the border officer straight away if you're still at the airport. The official FAQ tells travelers to check the temporary residence stamp in their passport and to notify immigration control at the border promptly if anything is inaccurate.

What no agency can honestly promise
Vietnam's Immigration Department decides every application and every change. No agency can guarantee that a correction will be accepted, that it will finish before your flight, or that a border officer will overlook a mismatch. Airlines make their own checks too. An honest service tells you what it can try, what that costs, and when a new application is the better choice.
