Five Things US Travelers Get Wrong
1. ICN or NRT entered as entry port
The most common US error. Korean Air routes transit through ICN; ANA/JAL through NRT or HND. The transit hub is never the entry port. Use SGN, HAN, or DAD.
2. Wrong entry date — date line crossing
Flights from the US to Vietnam cross the International Date Line. A departure from New York on Monday can land in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday. The entry date on the eVisa must be the Vietnam arrival date — the "Arrives" date on the Vietnam-landing segment in the booking confirmation, not the US departure date.
3. HEIC photo from iPhone
iPhone saves photos as HEIC by default. evisa.gov.vn may accept the upload but Vietnamese immigration OCR fails on HEIC, triggering Amendment Required. Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible converts to JPEG.
4. Reapplying when application is slow
Two applications with the same passport trigger a 24–48h deduplication hold on both. With a flight approaching, this is the worst possible outcome. Speed Up the existing application instead.
5. Choosing 30-day validity instead of 90-day
