When Vietnamese immigration reviews an application and finds an error, it flags the file as Amendment Required. Processing stops completely at that point. The government portal does not send any email notification when this happens. The application may continue to show "In Process" on evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search for some time before switching to Amendment Required.

1. Wrong entry port — transit hub entered instead of Vietnamese airport
This is the most common cause of Amendment Required across all nationalities. The entry port must be the IATA code of the Vietnamese airport where the plane lands — not the transit hub. evisa.gov.vn accepts any IATA code without geo-validation.

2. HEIC photo format from iPhone
iPhone saves all photos as HEIC by default. evisa.gov.vn may accept the upload but Vietnamese immigration OCR fails to read the MRZ from a HEIC file, triggering Amendment Required. Fix: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, then re-photograph the passport. Both bio-data scan and portrait photo must be JPEG under 2MB.
3. Missing middle name — name not matching passport MRZ
The name on the eVisa application must match exactly the name in the MRZ line at the bottom of the passport bio-data page. 5. Blurry or partially covered passport scan
If the passport is photographed at an angle, with shadows, or with fingers covering the MRZ line, immigration OCR cannot read the document. Photograph flat on a white surface with even lighting. All four corners must be visible. MRZ lines must be sharp and fully legible. Under 2MB, JPEG format.
