Vietnam E-Visa Processing Time 2026: Working Days, Holidays and Delays

Last updated: November 4, 2026

Direct answer: Vietnam's Immigration Department aims to decide an e-visa within 3 working days after it receives a complete application and the USD 25 fee. Weekends and Vietnamese public holidays do not count. In practice, plan for 4–6 working days, and longer around Tet (February 4–10, 2027). Faster paid options run from 1 working day to 30–60 minutes.

How long a Vietnam e-visa takes depends less on the form and more on the calendar: which day you submit, whether a holiday falls in the next week, and whether your details need fixing. This guide shows how to count the working days, which dates in late 2026 and 2027 stop the clock, and what to do if your result is late.

How long does a Vietnam e-visa take to process?

The official target is 3 working days; a safe planning figure is 4–6 working days. Vietnam's immigration law gives the Immigration Department 3 working days to review an e-visa application once it has the complete file and the government fee. The portal, evisa.gov.vn, repeats the same 3-day figure.

The 3 days are a target, not a guarantee. Busy weeks, a photo that needs replacing or a public holiday can add days. That is why we quote 4–6 working days for normal processing: it includes a sensible margin rather than the best case.

Do weekends and holidays count toward processing time?

No. Only Vietnamese working days count, Monday to Friday, in Vietnam time (GMT+7). You can submit an application on a Saturday night, but nobody reviews it until the next working day. Public holidays work the same way as weekends.

A simple way to estimate your result date is to count 3 working days starting from the first working day after you submit, then add a buffer of 1–3 working days.

Results sometimes arrive earlier than this, especially in quiet weeks. Treat any early result as a bonus, not something to plan a flight around.

Which holidays in 2026 and 2027 pause Vietnam e-visa processing?

The next closures are November 24, 2026, New Year 2027 and the 7-day Tet break from February 4 to 10, 2027. Vietnamese government offices, including immigration, close on public holidays, so those days are not counted.

The Tet and National Day 2027 dates were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs in October 2026. The November 24 holiday comes from National Assembly Resolution 28/2026/QH16. Hung Kings Day and any 2027 day in lieu still depend on official notices, so check again closer to the date.

Tet is the one week to avoid. Immigration closes for about seven days, and applications submitted before and during Tet are handled after it reopens, together with the backlog. If you travel in late January or February 2027, apply early in January.

Why can a Vietnam e-visa take longer than expected?

Most delays come from four causes: a holiday, a busy week, a problem with the photo or passport scan, or details that do not match the passport. None of them is unusual, and most can be avoided before you press submit.

  • Holidays and weekends. A Friday submission before a long weekend can mean almost a week before anyone opens it.
  • Peak season. Demand rises from October to April and before Tet, and queues grow.
  • Photo or scan problems. A blurry passport scan, a glare spot or a photo that does not show the full face can lead to a request for new files. See the Vietnam e-visa requirements for the file rules.
  • Name or number mismatch. Names, passport number and date of birth must match the passport exactly. Our list of common Vietnam e-visa mistakes covers the usual slips.

The fastest application is the one that never needs correcting. Ten minutes checking names and dates saves days of waiting.

💡 Tip: Keep the registration code you get after submitting, together with the email address and date of birth you used. You need all three to look up your status, and to get help if something goes wrong.

How do I check if my e-visa is still processing?

Use the search page on evisa.gov.vn with your registration code, email and date of birth. If you applied through Vietnam Visa Easy, we check the status for you and send the approved e-visa by email as soon as it is issued.

Look at the status page, not only your inbox. If immigration needs a change, the request may appear on the portal before you notice an email, and approval emails sometimes land in spam. Our Vietnam e-visa status check guide explains each status in plain words.

What should I do if my e-visa is late?

First count the working days correctly; if you are truly past 6 working days, check the status page, then ask for help before reapplying. Many "late" applications are simply inside the window once weekends and holidays are removed.

Flight in 1–3 days, no result

⚠️ Time is short

Do not panic-submit a second form. Ask us first which route is fastest.

Submitting a second application for the same passport is rarely the answer. Two open files can be confusing for both you and immigration, and you pay the government fee again. If a correction is needed, our guide on how to correct a mistake on your Vietnam e-visa shows the options. For long waits, see what to do if your e-visa is still processing.

How much faster is a paid urgent e-visa?

Paid urgent options shorten the wait from several working days to as little as 30–60 minutes in Vietnam working hours. All prices below are totals for a single-entry e-visa and already include the USD 25 government fee. Multiple entry adds USD 25.

Working hours are Vietnamese office hours, Monday to Friday. A request sent in the evening starts counting the next working morning. The full price breakdown is on our Vietnam visa cost page.

When is the best time to apply for a Vietnam e-visa?

Apply 2–3 weeks before your flight in a normal month, and 3–4 weeks before if your trip is near Tet or another holiday. Applying early costs nothing extra, because the e-visa starts on the entry date you choose, not on the day it is approved.

You can enter on any day from the start date to the end date on the e-visa, through the port you listed. Choosing the full validity you might need, up to 90 days, gives you room if plans move. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months on arrival.

Let us handle the waiting. Our normal e-visa service is USD 50 in total, with a result in 4–6 working days and the government fee included. If your flight is close, urgent processing takes 30–60 minutes to 1 working day during Vietnam working hours. We check your form before submitting and follow the file until the e-visa is issued.

What no agency can honestly promise

No private agency controls the final decision; only Vietnam's Immigration Department issues or refuses an e-visa. Faster options speed up handling of your file during working hours. They do not change eligibility rules, and immigration can still ask for new files or refuse an application.

  • No one can guarantee approval, or a result on a public holiday that immigration has not scheduled to work.
  • No one can make the portal ignore a name, date or passport number that does not match your passport.
  • No one can promise that a result estimate holds if the portal or the office has an unexpected outage.

What we can do is check your details before submission, choose the right speed for your flight and tell you plainly if your dates are too tight. Our refund rules are on the terms and conditions page.

Frequently asked questions

How many days does a Vietnam e-visa take in 2026?

The official target is 3 working days after a complete application and payment. Plan for 4–6 working days, and more around holidays.

Does Vietnam e-visa processing happen on weekends?

Normal processing does not; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are not counted. A paid weekend and holiday service is available for urgent trips.

How long does a Vietnam e-visa take around Tet 2027?

Government offices close from February 4 to 10, 2027, and work resumes with a backlog. Apply by mid-January 2027 for February travel.

Is a 90-day e-visa slower than a 30-day e-visa?

The same 3-working-day target applies to both. The fee is also the same: USD 25 single entry or USD 50 multiple entry.

Can I apply for a Vietnam e-visa too early?

Not really. The visa starts on the entry date you choose, so applying weeks ahead simply removes the risk of a late result.

Should I reapply if my e-visa is taking too long?

Usually not. Check the status page and count only working days first, then contact us with your registration code if your flight is close.
