Direct answer
All Canadian citizens require a Vietnam eVisa. No exemption, no visa on arrival 2026. USD 25 single (~CAD 34) • USD 50 multiple (~CAD 68). 30-day and 90-day same price — always choose 90 days.
Entry port: SGN / HAN / DAD — never ICN (Seoul) or NRT (Tokyo). This is the #1 Canadian error. Entry date = Vietnam arrival date, not Canadian departure date. YYZ Thursday departure = Vietnam Saturday arrival.
ET cutoffs: 1-Hour 07:00 • 1-Day midnight. PT subtract 3h. Saskatchewan: CT year-round. Pre-Arrival Form mandatory 72h before landing. Apply — from USD 90 (~CAD 123)
VietnamVisaEasy • Updated August 5, 2026 • Processing experience since 2010 • Written for Canadian travelers departing from YYZ, YVR, YYC, YUL, YEG, YOW. CAD prices approximate (Aug 2026 rate ~1 USD = 1.37 CAD).
Do Canadians Need a Visa for Vietnam?
Yes. All Canadian passport holders require a valid approved Vietnam eVisa for every visit — tourism, business, family. There is no bilateral visa exemption between Canada and Vietnam. The eVisa must be approved as a PDF before check-in at any Canadian departure airport. Showing up without an approved eVisa means denied boarding.
| eVisa required? | Yes — every visit, every purpose |
| Visa-free entry for Canadians? | No. No exemption in 2026. |
| Visa on arrival? | No. Not available in 2026. eVisa only. |
| Validity options | 30 days or 90 days — same price. Always choose 90 days. |
| Entry types | Single entry (USD 25) or multiple entry (USD 50) |
| Children | Separate eVisa required per child passport. Full fee each. |
The ICN Entry Port Error: Why It Happens and How to Avoid It
Most Canadian flights to Vietnam from YYZ and YVR transit Seoul Incheon (ICN) via Korean Air. The evisa.gov.vn portal accepts ICN without flagging it as wrong. Immigration review later catches the mismatch and triggers Amendment Required silently — no email, no notification. Processing stops completely. This is the single most common error from Canadian applicants.
| Canadian departure → Vietnam | Wrong | Correct | Vietnam city |
|---|---|---|---|
| YYZ or YVR via Seoul (ICN) → HCMC | ICN | SGN | Ho Chi Minh City |
| YYZ or YVR via Seoul (ICN) → Hanoi | ICN | HAN | Hanoi |
| YVR via Tokyo (NRT) → HCMC or Hanoi | NRT | SGN / HAN | HCMC or Hanoi |
| YUL via Paris (CDG) or Frankfurt (FRA) → Hanoi | CDG / FRA | HAN / SGN | Hanoi or HCMC |
How to find the correct port: open booking confirmation → find Vietnam-landing flight segment → read "Arrives" IATA code. That is the entry port. VietnamVisaEasy checks this for every agency submission.
Entry Date: The YYZ Thursday Departure Problem
The entry date on the eVisa must be the Vietnam arrival date — not the Canadian departure date. These are often different days because of the International Date Line and long transit times through Seoul or Tokyo.
| Departure | Wrong date | Correct date | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| YYZ Thursday 22:00 ET → ICN → SGN | Thursday | Saturday | Arrives Saturday morning VNT after 14h transit |
| YVR Friday 17:00 PT → ICN → HAN | Friday | Sunday | Crosses Date Line → arrives Sunday VNT |
| YUL Saturday → CDG → SGN | Saturday | Monday | CDG layover overnight → HCMC Monday VNT |
Rule: open booking confirmation → Vietnam-landing segment → read "Arrives: [date] [IATA code]" → that date and code fill the entry date and entry port fields on the eVisa. Never use the departure date column.
