Applying online takes about 20–30 minutes if your files are ready. This guide walks through the official portal screen by screen: what each section asks, what to type, how payment works, and how to find and download the result. Which website is the official place to apply?
Only evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn are run by Vietnam's Immigration Department. The portal's own FAQ names these two addresses and warns that unofficial websites can charge fees that are not allowed under Vietnamese rules.
Many sites look official and use words like "Vietnam e-visa" or "immigration" in their name. Check that the address ends in .gov.vn before you type any passport details. An agency such as Vietnam Visa Easy is a legitimate option too, but it should say clearly that it is a private service and show its price before you pay.
Do you need to apply at all?
Not always: citizens of many countries can enter Vietnam visa-free, and visitors to Phu Quoc island can stay up to 30 days without a visa. Check this first, because the e-visa fee cannot be refunded once you pay.
- Check the current list of Vietnam visa exemption countries and the number of days each one allows.

The e-visa is also only for people who are outside Vietnam. If you are already in the country, you need to leave first or ask a sponsor about other options.
What should you prepare before opening the form?
Have five things ready: your passport, a portrait photo, a scan of the passport data page, your travel plan and a payment card. Preparing them first avoids rushing through the form and making mistakes.

The portal checks file type and size when you upload. Sources disagree on the exact size limit, so if a file is rejected, save it again as a smaller JPG. How do you fill in the Vietnam e-visa form step by step?
Open the e-visa page, accept the notes, upload your two files, then complete the personal, passport, trip and contact sections in English. The order below follows the main parts of the official form.
- Start the application. On evisa.gov.vn, choose the e-visa option for foreigners outside Vietnam and click "Apply now". Read the declaration notes and confirm.
- Upload your files. Add the portrait photo and the passport data page. Check the preview: if you cannot read the text yourself, the officer cannot either.
- Personal details. Enter your full name exactly as in the two machine-readable lines at the bottom of the passport, in capital letters, including any middle name. Then add your date of birth, sex, nationality and the other personal details the form asks for.
- Passport details. Passport number, type, issue date and expiry date. Copy them from the passport, not from an old visa or booking.
- Trip details. Purpose of visit, single or multiple entry, the date the e-visa should start and end, and the entry and exit border gates.
- Address and contacts. Your first address in Vietnam (a hotel is fine), your email address and a phone number.
- Background questions. Trips to Vietnam in the past year and any past violations. Answer every question honestly; the portal states that dishonest answers lead to refusal.
- Review and submit. Check every field against the passport, then confirm and go to payment.
Type your name from the bottom lines of the passport, not from your booking or your memory. That one habit prevents most e-visa mistakes.
Which fields cause the most problems?
Names, dates and the entry port cause most trouble, because they must match your passport and your actual trip. A mistake in these fields can mean a correction, a new application or problems at check-in.

The e-visa can be used only through the international border gates on the official list: 15 airports, plus designated land and sea gates. You do not have to leave through the same gate you entered. How do you pay, and what happens after you submit?
You pay the government fee online through the portal's payment gateway, then receive a registration code that you need to track the application. The fee is USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple entry, and the portal states it is not refunded if the visa is refused.
- Payment. Use an international card that allows online payments in another country. If the payment fails, call your bank before trying again, so you do not pay twice.
- Registration code. Save it, together with the email address and date of birth you used. Take a screenshot.

How do you check the result and download the e-visa?
Use the "Search" page on evisa.gov.vn with your registration code, email and date of birth, then download the e-visa as a PDF when it is approved. Results are also sent by email, but the portal is the place to check if nothing arrives.

Should you apply yourself or through an agency?
If you have a week or more and are comfortable with the form, applying yourself on the official portal is the cheapest option. An agency makes sense when time is short, when you want someone to check your files first, or when the payment keeps failing.

What no agency can honestly promise
Only Vietnam's Immigration Department decides whether an e-visa is issued; no agency can guarantee approval. Paid speeds shorten the handling time during working hours. They do not change the eligibility rules or the need for correct information.
- No one can guarantee approval, or a result on a day immigration does not work.
- No one can make an e-visa valid for a border gate that is not on the official list.
- No one can fix a wrong name or passport number after issue without a correction or a new application.
