Vietnam E-Visa Before Departure: A Final Check

POSTED ON OCTOBER 16, 2026 BY Admin

Vietnam E-Visa Before Departure: A Final Check

You have your Vietnam e-visa. Your flight is in the diary. Before you leave for the airport, take 10 minutes to run through this final check. The issues that cause travellers to be denied boarding at check-in — a wrong entry date, a mismatched name, a missing airport declaration — are all things you can catch and fix right now, while you still have time.

This checklist covers everything from verifying your approval status to what to show airline staff at the desk. Work through it in order.

Flying into Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)? From 15 April 2026, a separate pre-arrival declaration is mandatory before boarding. See Step 5 below.

The Pre-Departure Checklist

Step 1 — Confirm your e-visa status is Approved

Go to evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search. Enter your reference code (format: E260705...) and your passport number. The status should read Approved.

If the status shows Pending, Processing, or Amendment Required, contact VietnamVisaEasy immediately — do not wait until the airport.

Step 2 — Check your name matches your passport exactly

Open your e-visa PDF. Compare the name printed on the visa to the name on your passport bio-data page. They must be identical — including middle names, hyphens, and spacing.

A single character difference is enough for an airline to deny boarding. If there is any discrepancy, contact VietnamVisaEasy now — error identification is free.

Step 3 — Verify your passport number and date of birth

Your passport number and date of birth on the e-visa must match your current passport exactly. If you renewed your passport after applying, you may need a new e-visa issued for the new passport number.

Even a single transposed digit in the passport number will cause problems at immigration.

Step 4 — Check your entry date and entry port

Your e-visa shows an entry date and a named entry port. Both must match your actual travel plans:

  • Entry date = the date your flight lands in Vietnam (not your departure date from home).
  • Entry port = the Vietnamese airport where you clear immigration. If you transit through a non-Vietnamese airport (Singapore, Bangkok, etc.), that does not appear here.

If either is wrong, contact VietnamVisaEasy immediately. Do not submit a second application — duplicate applications trigger a 24–48 hour hold on both.

Step 5 — Complete the SGN pre-arrival declaration (Ho Chi Minh City only)

From 15 April 2026, all travellers arriving at Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat / SGN) must complete a pre-arrival health and customs declaration before boarding their flight. This is mandatory and separate from your e-visa.

Complete it at: prearrival.immigration.gov.vn

If you are flying into Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, or another Vietnamese airport, this step does not apply to you.

Step 6 — Save your e-visa in multiple places

Save your e-visa PDF in at least two locations so you can access it even if one fails:

  • Downloaded to your phone (accessible without internet)
  • Saved to cloud storage (Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox)
  • Printed copy in your carry-on bag

You will need to show the e-visa at check-in and again at Vietnam immigration. A printed copy is useful if your phone battery is low or you cannot connect to the internet.

Step 7 — Check your passport expiry date

Vietnam immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date. Check that date now. If your passport expires within 6 months of your Vietnam arrival, you need to renew before travelling.

A new passport means a new passport number, which means a new e-visa application.

Step 8 — Confirm separate visas for all children travelling with you

Every person travelling to Vietnam needs their own e-visa, regardless of age. Children cannot be added to a parent's visa. If any child in your group does not have their own approved e-visa, apply now.

This is a common source of last-minute problems at check-in.

Quick Reference: What to Check on Your E-Visa PDF

Field on E-Visa What It Must Match
Full name Your passport bio-data page — every character, including middle names
Date of birth Passport — day, month, year in correct order
Passport number Current passport — the one you are travelling with
Entry date The date your flight lands in Vietnam (not departure from home)
Entry port The Vietnamese airport where you clear immigration (SGN, HAN, DAD, PQC, CXR)
Validity period Must cover your full planned stay in Vietnam — 90 days is recommended

If You Find a Problem

Finding an error before you reach the airport puts you in a recoverable position. Here is how to act depending on what you find:

Problem Action
Status not yet Approved Contact VietnamVisaEasy — they will check status and escalate if needed
Amendment Required status Contact VietnamVisaEasy — error identification is free; resolution can be urgent
Name or passport number error Contact VietnamVisaEasy — do not submit a new application
Wrong entry date or entry port Contact VietnamVisaEasy — do not submit a new application
Child missing their own visa Apply immediately — choose an urgent tier based on time until your flight

Do not submit a second application. If your existing application has an error, submitting a duplicate triggers a 24–48 hour processing hold on both applications. Contact VietnamVisaEasy instead — correction on an existing application does not carry that risk.

What to Present at the Airport

At each stage of your journey, here is what you may be asked to show:

Stage Documents needed
Airline check-in desk Passport + e-visa PDF (phone or print) + SGN pre-arrival QR code (if flying to SGN)
Boarding gate Passport + boarding pass (e-visa usually not re-checked here)
Vietnam immigration desk Passport + e-visa PDF (hand both to the immigration officer)

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to show at check-in for Vietnam?
Your passport and your e-visa PDF (on your phone or printed). If you are flying into Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), also show your SGN pre-arrival declaration QR code from prearrival.immigration.gov.vn.
How do I check if my Vietnam e-visa is valid?
Go to evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search and enter your reference code (E260705...) and passport number. An Approved status with details matching your passport confirms your visa is valid.
What if my name on the e-visa does not match my passport?
Contact VietnamVisaEasy immediately — error identification is free. A name mismatch will result in denied boarding. Do not wait until the airport to raise this.
The entry date on my e-visa is wrong — what do I do?
Contact VietnamVisaEasy immediately. Do not submit a new application — a duplicate triggers a 24–48 hour hold on both applications. The entry date should be your Vietnam arrival date, not your departure date from home.
Is the SGN pre-arrival declaration mandatory?
Yes, from 15 April 2026. If you are arriving at Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat / SGN), you must complete the declaration at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn before boarding. It is separate from the e-visa.
Do I need to print my Vietnam e-visa?
Most airlines accept a digital copy on your phone. A printed copy is strongly recommended as a backup — particularly if your phone battery may be low or your connection unreliable on arrival.
My flight is today and my e-visa has not arrived — what can I do?
Contact VietnamVisaEasy via WhatsApp immediately with your departure time. If you already have an application in progress, do not submit a new one — that triggers a 24–48 hour hold on both. The team can check your status and escalate if possible.
