Vietnam eVisa Requirements Checklist: Everything You Need Before You Apply (2026)

HomeVisa RequirementsVietnam e-Visa Requirements Checklist
Quick answer: You need a valid passport, a portrait photo with a white background, a clear scan of your passport's bio page, your travel details, a valid email, and a payment method. Getting the photo and passport scan right the first time is what most often determines whether your application sails through or gets delayed.

Most Vietnam e-visa delays don't come from complicated paperwork — they come from small details on a handful of requirements. This checklist breaks each one down so you can get it right the first time.

1. Your Passport

What you need: A valid passport with enough remaining validity to cover your entire trip, and at least a couple of blank pages.

What trips people up: Entering your passport number with a typo, or entering your name in a different order or format than your passport shows (missing a middle name, swapping given/family name order). Your e-visa needs to match your passport exactly, character for character.

2. Your Portrait Photo

What you need: A recent, clear photo with a plain white background.

✅ What a good photo looks like

  • Plain white or light background, no shadows or patterns
  • Neutral facial expression, looking straight at the camera
  • No glasses, hats, or head coverings (except for religious reasons)
  • Taken recently, not an old or heavily filtered photo

❌ What causes rejection or delay

  • Colored, patterned, or busy backgrounds
  • Photos taken at an angle, or with a shadow across the face
  • Cropped screenshots or low-resolution images
  • Filters, heavy editing, or photos that don't clearly resemble the applicant

3. Your Passport Bio Page Scan

What you need: A clear, uncropped scan or photo of the passport page showing your photo and personal details.

What trips people up: Cropping out the edges of the page, glare or shadow covering part of the text, or photographing it at an angle that makes details hard to read. The whole page should be visible and every field legible.

4. Your Travel Details

What you need: Your intended entry date, exit date, entry point (airport, land border, or seaport), and single- or multiple-entry preference.

What trips people up: Entering the wrong entry date — this is one of the most common and easily overlooked mistakes, since your visa validity starts counting from that exact date. Enter the date you actually plan to arrive in Vietnam, not an earlier placeholder.

5. Contact Details and Payment

You'll also need a valid email address (to receive updates and your approved visa) and a payment method — typically a credit or debit card. Double-check your email for typos, since this is how you'll be notified and how you'd recover your application status if something goes wrong.

A Note for Families and Groups

Every traveler with their own passport — including children — needs a separate e-visa application. Attaching a child to a parent's application is a common mistake that can get the whole family's application flagged. If you're applying for a family or group, contact our team via WhatsApp for guidance.

FAQ: Vietnam e-Visa Requirements

What documents do I need for a Vietnam e-visa?

A valid passport, a portrait photo with a white background, a clear scan of your passport's bio page, your travel details, a valid email address, and a payment method.

What are the photo requirements for a Vietnam e-visa?

A recent, clear portrait photo with a plain white background, neutral expression, no glasses or head covering (unless for religious reasons), and no filters or heavy editing.

Can children apply on a parent's Vietnam e-visa?

No. Every traveler with their own passport, including children, needs a separate e-visa application.

Can a Vietnam e-visa be extended?

The e-visa itself is not designed to be extended online. If you need to stay longer, the practical options are visiting a Vietnamese embassy in-country, or exiting to a visa-exempt country and applying for a new e-visa.

What happens if I don't print my Vietnam e-visa?

You risk delays at check-in and immigration. It's strongly recommended to print at least one physical copy and also keep a digital copy on your phone.
